Kedarnath Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located high in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India, at 3,583 meters above sea level. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are important holy sites for Shiva devotees. The temple, made of large stones, was rebuilt by the great saint Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Inside, there is a unique Shiva lingam, representing the hump of a bull, which symbolizes Lord Shiva. Surrounded by tall, snow-covered mountains, the temple is open to visitors from late April to November and is a key part of the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.
Story Of Kedarnath Temple-
The story behind Kedarnath Temple is rooted in the legend of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata. After the great war of Kurukshetra, the Pandavas sought to atone for their sins by seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva. However, Lord Shiva, wanting to avoid them, disguised himself as a bull and hid in the mountains of Uttarakhand. The Pandavas pursued him, and when they finally caught up, Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, recognized the bull as Shiva. Bhima tried to hold onto the bull, but it began to sink into the ground. Only the hump remained above the surface, which is worshipped in Kedarnath Temple today. Impressed by their determination, Lord Shiva forgave the Pandavas and granted them his blessings. The temple was later built at this site to honor Lord Shiva, with the hump of the bull (Shiva) as the main deity. This story makes Kedarnath a sacred place for devotees, who believe it is a spot where one can gain forgiveness and spiritual peacez
